DanceStream Projects and Queens Community House Forest Hills Older Adult Center and NORC Forest Hills invite you to an afternoon of dance, storytelling and brain health!
Join dancer, creative aging teaching artist and Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health Magda Kaczmarska as together we will discover the science behind the way dance, movement and creativity can make us stronger, more adaptive and engaged in the world around us.
We will wrap up the afternoon with a special session of the co-creative program Stories in the Moment which uses dance as a form of storytelling to spark brain health and build spaces of heightened belonging.
All participants ages 60+ are welcome. No prior dance experience required. Light refreshments provided!

About the presenter:
Magda Kaczmarska is a dancer, creative aging teaching artist and Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health. Magda received her MFA in Dance Performance & Choreography and BS in Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics from the University of Arizona.
Magda has dedicated her career to utilizing the vehicle of dance and movement to amplify and support intergenerational creative community and has over 20 years of experience as a community-based dance artist. Her multidisciplinary work leverages a dual background in neuropharmacology and dance to build bridges and empower individuals and communities to be active agents in their creativity and brain health. Through all her work, she seeks to foster safe, creative and inclusive spaces for discovery, agency and meaning. She believes all of us possess the ability to harness our creative expression to support building meaningful and healthy communities around us.
She founded DanceStream Projects, a community arts and health organization, with a mission to spark brain health and build creative community through dance and movement. Magda created Stories in the Moment, an evidence-informed program which uses dance as a form of storytelling to spark brain health, while collectively building spaces of heightened belonging. www.dancestreamprojects.com

Queens Community House Social Adult Day Services and DanceStream Projects invite you to this free public event to raise awareness about brain health!
Join Magda Kaczmarska, dancer, creative aging teaching artist and Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health for an hour of exploration and discussion of how as we age, dance, movement and creativity help make us stronger, more adaptive & engaged in the world around us. This event will include an interactive presentation. We will discover the science behind how dance supports brain health and try out some activities we can all do that sharpen our brain at any point in our lives.
All are welcome! We will move together, so wear something comfortable.
All activities can be done seated or standing.

She mentors future leaders in the creative and health sector through a regular partnership at the Fordham Ailey School of Dance in New York City and the Arts in Medicine Fellowship in Lagos, Nigeria.
Magda serves as a representative to the UN with Generations United and is on the executive committee of the UN NGO Committee on Ageing. She serves on the Dance and Disability Taskforce at the National Dance Education Organization, to support access, equity and inclusion in the dance education community, for which she received the Executive Director Award in 2021. As an Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health at the Global Brain Health Institute, Magda builds collaborations around the globe to design and expand access to creative aging programs that support brain health across the lifespan.

PRESENTING AT NATIONAL DANCE EDUCATION CONFERENCE, MIAMI, FL
I am thrilled to be one of the recipients of the National Dance Education Organization Professional Development Scholarships which will allow me to attend the annual conference in Miami, FL, Oct 24-26, 2019.
I will be presenting two workshops, one with Dances for a Variable Population artistic director Naomi Goldberg Haas and dance educator Rebecca Hite and another with dance educators and fellow group dance improvisation advocates, Mary Ann Brehm, Karenne Koo and Shana Habel.
