I believe that the dance came from the people and that it should always be delivered back to the people.

EVERY BODY MOVES

Danse (I), Henri Matisse

Every Body Moves is a dance and fitness program for older adults designed to spark brain health and support creativity

Every Body Moves is evidence informed, incorporating elements of dance and physical activity that influence positive support of brain health: aerobic activity, balance, coordination, strength training (specifically for grip strength, upper body and in support of lower extremity for activities of daily living), social connection, meditation/somatic awareness, creative engagement.

The key aims of the program are:

 1) To open a safe space for community dialogue around brain health

2) To inform participants around the benefits of dance and physical activity on brain health

3) To support a safe space for co-creative exploration among communities of older adults that reflects and champions the individuals within the group

4) To engage older adults in activities that support their brain health through physical activity, social connection and creative expression

The program is offered virtually with accommodations for seated and standing activities so all can participate safely.

No prior dance experience required. All are welcome!

Testimonials from Every Body Moves in partnership with UCSF MAC Creative Minds, Fall 2020.

I feel like I am in a class where we cannot do anything wrong (“This is great!,” “You are fantastic!”) and I can’t tell you how that energizes people to get that kind of positive feedback. It’s great energy.
