Whatever you think you can do or believe you can do, begin it. Action has magic, grace and power in it

SPEAKING EVENTS

As an artist, educator and researcher, I am committed to utilizing my public voice to share information, advocate for causes that advance equity, increase visibility and promote mutual support for those who lack the public arena.

On the forefront of my advocacy, resides the support of the growing field of CREATIVE AGING. My experience in dance and movement arts of almost 20 years as well as 10 years of background in biological research, has fueled and reinforced my recognition that creativity in individual and especially, group settings has a direct correlation to revitalizing communities and promoting mental, physical and emotional well-being.

Furthermore, I recognize the growing need for future dance educators to be prepared to serve as leaders in community engagement on multiple levels and seek to support policy design, training, resource development and research which can expand dance education programs to meet these needs. I mentor future leaders in the creative and health sector through a regular partnership at the Fordham Ailey School of Dance in New York City and the Arts in Medicine Fellowship in Lagos, Nigeria and present regularly at the National Dance Education Organization and International Association for Creative Dance. You can learn more about my work in Dance Education here.

I partner with other educators and policy makers to engage in panel discussions, public presentations, workshops and publications to further the dialogue around ageism, social connection, brain health, creativity and dance.

I have spoken and presented at multiple public panels, conferences and workshops about the benefits of creative aging on individual and social health, building intergenerational creative communities and dispelling ageist myths around how older adults can participate and engage in physical and creative activity. Credits include Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer’s Artfully Aging Conference (2018), Columbia University Teachers College Symposium (2019), National Dance Education Conference (2018–2020).
